What Will You Do?

With the new school year beginning for most I thought I might collect some ideas from you to share with new teachers.  With this new month starting, I'd like to start a "What Will You Do?" series that gives you the opportunity to share what you are going to try to do with your students that is something NEW and therefore maybe a little scary for you.

For example, are you starting a new behavior plan, a new series, a new way of teaching?  I'd love for you to share what you're doing and how it goes.  My hopes is that through your reflection new teachers can be helped as well as some of us who are new to our position.

What will I do?  This month I am using Interactive Journals with my social studies students, and I'm hoping they use these as their study guides.  I'll see how that works when they take their first test.

  1. I think it would be a lot of fun to have an interactive journal for my PreK-ers! I'm going to have to think that one over!

I am going to be doing objectives reviews via interactive powerpoints... just need to make them! LOL

  2. I am going try to give my Spanish students more opportunities to choose the content of their homework reading assignments through more open-ended reading questions.

  3. I am going to include our 3YO in reading lessons as she shows interest, because why not? She seems to get it and is sounding out words. She doesn't know all of the letter sounds and my 2nd graders do, so I'll have to keep working on that. But anyway, kind of way out there, but that is one thing. Another is being more purposeful in integrating my 3 youngest learners in lessons together. I am actually working on a unit now that I'll be trying with them. I've been inspired by the many teachers at TpT who teach learners of multiple ages and abilities in one room. We shall see how it goes.

@Tiny Toes, I'd be very interested in that interactive journal for my almost PreKer. She will be 4 in February *sniff, sniff*.

  5. What will I do? Have my college students put their cell phones in a sock (which I provide), tie a knot in it, and place it before them during test time. That way there is no cheating. Read about it at: http://gofigurewithscipi.blogspot.com/2013/09/sock-it-away.html
